Teal Emlyn Sallen studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her major concentration was Printmaking but she spent much time also indulging her passion for Art History. Born in Massachusetts in 1979, Teal was raised in the forests and fields of Vermont. She lived on a sheep farm, in a teepee, and on a horse farm, thus growing into an avid lover of the peaceful countryside. Teal’s fascination with nature and the intersection of the natural and the human can be seen as recurring themes in her art and informs much of her illustration. Her background in Art History surfaces in her employment of archetypes and symbolic use of color to reinforce meaning in her art and in her illustration. Teal also employs style itself as a form of visual vocabulary, using both media and method to suit the subject matter at hand.
Teal teaches drawing at Artistree Community Arts Center in Pomfret, Vermont. She lives and creates in Bethel, Vermont, and on Isle Madame, Nova Scotia.
